After I successfully snagged my shot of Panstarrs last night I finally felt free to start experimenting and doing some other things and, as I was at Badbury Rings already I decided to do some exploring. I have never been into the middle before where there is a small wood full of, as it happens, screeching owls and screaming foxes and finally, a stone plinth of some sort that has compass points and visible items marked on a circular metal plate.

I was just playing around really doing a bunch of things just to see what I could do using the glowsticks and torches I have. I really need to start dragging an assistant along with me though as it's quite difficult to synchronise the shots with the torch movements.

The best image of the shoot though is this one I think.

A 360 degree panoramic of Badbury Rings just after sunset.
It should blow up a bit bigger if you click on it but it occurs to me that it can be quite difficult to view panoramics in a meaningfull way.

I think also that this blog probably lends itself better to portrait images, so a vertical panoramic might look better, so expect some experiment in that area soon.

Tonight, after having spent a day redecorating the lounge, and when putting a bag of rubbish in the bin, I looked up to see something i've not seen in a long while... Stars!

Completely on a whim I decided to venture out to one of my familiar locations and try and get some shots of the winter sky before constellations like Orion's Belt tuck themselves under the horizon for summer.

As you can see above, I ended up at Horton Tower again but that wasn't my original plan. Initially I intended to go to Knowlton Church as I fancied some westerly facing shots that I thought the Tower would have too many trees for.
On arriving at the church though there were a bunch of cars already parked. I pulled up a bit further along the road and looked over to see what was going on to see camera flashes illuminating the ruins. Clearly. Other photographers were making use of the spot but using flash photography they must have been shooting details or portraits or so.
It was a bit of a nuisance, the first time in ages I managed to get out to shoot and my location was busy. I did consider dropping in, socialising and shooting there anyway but I bottled it.

My only disappointment is that I'll likely never know what it was that was being shot there.
Was it some uni students shooting some art project?
Some band photography for a local metal/folk band?
Some Goths taking new profile pictures for Facebook or Deviant art?
Maybe Ghost hunters with IR cameras?
Or something more obscure...

Anyway Horton's Tower did not disappoint and I was quite happy with the resulting shots, nothing vastly different to what I've shot before but it's nice to get some early practice before teh warmer summer skies present themselves.

This weeks photograph is of an interesting texture on a guitar.
 I shan't say much more at this time but this image is a pretty big hint for things to come.

ELEPHANT!
This is another photostitch image compiled from several shots. I was in a moving vehicle at the time so I thought I would try snapping a series to try and get more background in and give the elephant some context, some surroundings. Ultimately I'm not sure how good it is as a result, once again, after trying to stitch the shots there were lots of gaps but this image does have a lot less editing than some of my previous stitches.

This image was taken early in the morning at Animal Kingdom at Disney World during a family holiday.

Sadly there isn't much time for me to take advantage of the snow photographically this year as we have travel plans but I did find some time whilst playing with my boy to build my first snowman... I wasn't very good at it as it turns out but in the end the grotesque dog-faced snow-troll grew on me and I thought the carrot was better used as a cigar than a nose. :) Happy snow day everyone!

This photo is a stitch of about 12 photos. I'm still a bit flakey at getting the necessary shots for a photo stitch really... You might be able to notice that there are two corners where some heavy editing was used to add otherwise missing details.

It's Halloween!

 I'm really happy with this pumpkin carving.
It's my third one ever, I did most of it using a potato peeler as opposed to a knife like I used to.
I think it worked quite well and I'm happy with the results. :)

This week I've been in Melbourne. I only had one day to get out and take photos and sadly I got rained off so only ended up getting a hand full of sub-par photos.
This is the best of the bunch I think.

 I'll hopefully have a chance to try again.

I'm running way to far behind on Photograph of the week this year. It's quite disapointing but, this week I've got something new.
This one is a new experiment that i'm going to play around with some more.
I was on my way home from a friends house late at night when I felt the need to try and shoot some stars over a river/flood-land. It's not a perfect shot of the location and the passing cars cause a massive over-exposure in the middle but the main experiment is above in the sky.

This is my first attempt at purposeful star-trails. The intention was not to get static sharp stars but clear trails that highlight the movement going on. I'm happy with this first experiment though I'll likely retry the location from a different spot next time.

Whoops! I'm four months behind on these.
Though I've not been unproductive in that time with quite a lot of night time photography.
This week though I managed to grab some macro shots of a spider in my garden. He was extemely well lit by a bright sun on clear summers day.

After my dawn run to Kimmeridge I managed to get some shots from the local area in frosty conditions. Driving through the Lulworth firing ranges I noticed some ruined tanks on the range and grabbed a shot from the road side.

Despite the pointless Petrol Panics sweeping the nation i'm still doing dawn runs down to the Purbecks whilst the good weather persists.

Due to the nice weather i've been doing some dawn runs into the deepest, darkest Isle of Purbecks. I'll make a seperate post with the results of that in a later post but for now here is a quick shot I took from the side of the road.

Usually I miss spring when it comes to seasonal photo oppurtunities but I'm trying to make sure i'm out and about at all times to take advantage this year.

So it's now time to re-commence the Photgraph of the Week posts. I took a bit of a break after hitting 52 as it coincided with a house move and there has been little time available to shoot anything.
Now however the camera is back out, some new equipment has been added to the camera bag and the weekly challenge is once again in place!

I took this shot at a familiar location near my place of work. It's shot in infra-red in the same manner that my other previous shots were, using an infra-red filter on my older Nikon D50.

Huzzah! Photograph of the week has come full circle(-ish) and is on it's 52nd posting. Today on the 26th of Novemeber 2011 I post the 52nd photograph of the week in a row since the first POTW posted all the way back in 2010 on... *cough* the 6th of September! *cough*

Ironically of course I actually don't have a new photo as such to post this week either. (It's been a busy month and any photos I have taken have been family photos really which are not suitable for wip-tricky.)
Instead, however, I have compiled the past fifty-one photographs into one of my tried and tested "pile-of-photographs" compilation wallpapers for 1920x1020 resolutions, roughly in order going from left to right in rows from top to bottom.

It's interesting, to me, to see how the subjects changed over the year, there's quite a few macros in there, a couple of landscapes, some wildlife, no portraits, a few still-lifes and some experimentation in infra-red at the end. It's quite good to look at, reminds me what I'm capable of, what I've achieved so far and helps give ideas of where/how I should improve or what new things I should try to do next.

So what about those missing weeks eh?
By my calculation, with the exception of the past three weeks, I have missed 12 weeks over the past year but that does not necessarily mean I didn't take any photographs during those periods. I've gone back over my photo-database and discovered a photograph from every week I failed to do an update. They shall be posted below and you can decide for yourself whether I didn't post them because they didn't deserve it(sometimes), because I was too busy(other times) or because I forgot(no comment).

I missed one week in December 2010, January, April, May, June and September and two weeks in February, March and August. The only months I managed a full compliment of weekly updates were in the initial months of September 2010, October 2010, November 2010 and then July 2011.

The next photograph of the week post I make after this one will be the new date that I shall try to get a fluent, unbroken years worth of weekly updates.
