This weeks scribbling is another in my series of character concept.

Her name is Rose. She is a hitman/assassin type who likes to wear bowler hats and go bare-foot.
I've worked on this one on and off for months and just decided to clean a couple of lines here and there and go ahead and post it. I was going to try more than one outfit, specifically on the duplicate pose from behind on the left but I got lazy.
If I do more work on her concept I'll probably start a new piece.

In retrospect this work pretty much sums up my sum ability to draw guns and feet...

This is my first attempt at a villain.
 His name is Mallus and he's my take on a vampire, that, in my mind, I like to mix up with the old Nordic(Or Tolkien) Elf-folk.
 I shan't go into too much detail here, I tried to reflect a few ideas, I even dropped in a slight homage to Gary Oldman's dracula hair-do.
The furthest right image is a really quick and poorly coloured scribble of him in days of old when he would've been more of a general in an army than he is in modern day.

He's a man of power, knowledge and undeniable evil. I tried to draw an image of him where he's non-chalantly standing over a pile of corpses, which I tried to make look like other characters I've been working on.

This chap is called Wolfgard, an unimaginatively named character who is a werewolf. He is the chief of a clan of werewolves. He's meant to be a fairly stereo-typical Scandinavian Viking type who's taken it upon himself to lead and build a refuge for others of his kind. The woman is Wielew, his wife, who i'll likely draw later. Werewolves in my mythology, such as that is, are a complicated breed to which they can control their affliction and live their lives as morally as the rest of humanity wherever possible. Sometimes though the affliction can cause madness when mixed with other diseases such as rabies or more simply pre-existing psychological maladies, this causes a werewolf to be referred to as a lycanthrope. Traditionally the name used for the psychiatric condition of "thinking" you're a werewolf. Lycanthropes differ from werewolves in that they are not organised, they don't try to cling to humanity and will not bind themselves to human morality. Typically this causes them to live wild in forests and country, hunting whatever sates their hunger, man or beast. Wolfgard and his clan take it as their responsibility to "handle" the lycanthrope problem and where possible re-abilitate.

This weeks scribbling is yet another character concept.
Her name is Auralie, slightly inspired by an RP character a friend of mine used to play as.
She's meant to be a Unicorn who turns into a Human for company, her only shared characteristic between forms is her hair colour.
When in Human form she leans towards raves and night-clubbing so she can be among people without necessarily having to socialise with them, which she's not great at considering she's basically a glorified horse underneath it all.

I like the idea of using the traditional furry boots/gloves as a sort of nod towards hairy hooves... i'm not great at drawing hooves and I probably got too distracted conceptualising hairstyles more than how the colours would work in the hair but still..

Much like the last "Scribble of the week" this weeks scribble is another character concept. Once again, no heavy concentration on shading or details, a lot of the rough outlines are still present, this is very much an exercise in creativity rather than a project to be finished... Which is handy because I don't have to worry so much about those blasted feet!

This character is a chap called James. The bio-sheet I wrote up to base this character on was quite lengthy but it's not really worth posting so much detail here.
In brief James is meant to be a kind of super-mechanic/engineer/scientist type character. The most noticeable characteristics he has is that he has replaced his rib-cage, internal organs and spinal cord with a mechanical substitute, the substitution requires an exhaust-pipe for an unknown bi-product for an undisclosed internal process, he has also lost and replaced his right arm.

I couldn't decide how he replaced his right arm though, whether it was with a sophisticated bionic arm, a somewhat less-sophisticated mechanical arm or a whole new arm reforged from pure energy. The nice thing about a "pure-energy" arm, I figure, is that you could use the "pure-energy" to power a bionic arm that was built around it, or various other fun devices, so even if I end up preferring the bionic arm I could say there was the energy version underneath it. I did get a bit distracted by the "pure-energy" concept, hence i did a bit of arm anatomy to one side. :)

The character generally is overladen with tools in his many slotted/pocketed toolbelt and he also owns a large mechanically augmented war-hammer that he calls "plan B" because:
"If all else fails, try hitting it with a hammer"

This "week's" scribble is just a quick character concept.

I recently watched a video about doing quick "brain-stormy" character concept art.
It's all kept very simple, colours are just blocked in, line-art is messy and shading is very crude until a final concept is nailed down. Most details are totally absent and it gives me an excuse to totally disregard feet which is always nice :)

It's a fun exercise and keeps me scribbling so I expect I shall be working on other character concepts for a while now.

I'm not too good at keeping up to date with my Scribbles of the week in comparison to my photos but that does not mean i'm not scribbling. I'll try to get more on the ball in the coming weeks but no promises. :)

For now though, my current work-in-progress is actually an extension of a previous post. This is apiece of art depicting my boy and his awesome mount and travelling companion the Alphabetepillar.

As always with these pieces it's very much a work-in-progress. The background is miles off and more shading/highlighting/details and such needs to be done with a splash more colour but still.

Well it's been an awful long time since the last SotW and plans are in place that I should be keepign ti as up to date in the near future as I have been with the photograph of the week. Regardless however I have a scribble for this week, far earlier in it's development than previous scribbles but probably far more befitting the name.

 On getting this far I've changed my mind  quite dramatically on how I want to do this image so not sure if i'll actually finish him up.

Here's another old one.

The date of the scan itself goes back to 2007 so this particular scribble is at least 3 years old and almost totally forgotten about. Looking at it though it's tempting to clean it up and finish it.

The concept was inspired by the 100 themes challenge, this particular image was meant to represent "Sorrow". In my head I wanted to do an image of a homeless or otherwise unfortunate person sat hunched with their hand in their hands... it's pretty tough to resist the urge of adding horns/ tails and clovern feet at the best of times but when I considered the idea of a 'fallen angel' who would ofcourse be quite the sorrowful sort I couldn't resist at all.

Another random sketch I did for a concept, it's got all my usual themes, skulls, swords... and all that jazz. I think I drwe this sometime in 2009, possibly in december 2008. I'd totally forgotten about it untill I went hunting for a Scribble for this week. I still kinda dig the skull tattoos...

 Should have a none "SotW" update this week as i'm just finishing up a bunch of portraits and concept artwork to post but for now here is the most recent scribbling from my sketchbook. It's a concept really crossing ladybirds and faeries together, I also liked the idea of working on a fantasy piece with a "Macro" background.

So far it's called Ladybird and Blackberries for obvious reasons... in my head it looks pretty good in colour.

Scribble of the week is a weekly feature(on and off probably) where i'll be posting a random sketch, scribble, design or element from one of my various sketch books, these will always be unfinished pieces of work and will often, most likely, be very eclectic.

Recently I discovered a lot of my old sketch books, notebooks and old photographs had been ruined by an unfortunate leak in my garage. This horribly aggravating event coupled with the fact I recently went through my current sketch book and stumbled upon a lot of unfinished and finished sketchs and illustrations i'd completely forgotten about has inspired me to start up this potentially weekly feature.

This particular piece of work is of my dear(seven and a half month) son, Marley. I drew this about 3 months ago when he was distinctly more babyish than he is now. It's a silly scribble but was quite a lot of fun.

The characters around him represent some of his favourite toys and the bottles, ofcourse, representing his one true desire at this stage in life. The concept in my mind at the time was to make a sort of pseudo heavy metal album cover with an obvious sense of irony.
